TENNIS COURT CONSTRUCTION
An 'outside-inside' solution that enables year-round outdoor play. The covered outdoor tennis court with no walls is designed for regular, year-round play, sheltered from the weather. This cost effective and eco-friendly design is of particular interest to clubs and local councils with limited land space, making it impossible to have outdoor and indoor facilities on the same site.
SMC2 has over 10 years experience in providing quality turnkey tennis court construction solutions and designs to suit your site characteristics, budget and business requirements.
Our outdoor tennis court structures are suitable for homeowners, sporting clubs, local councils, schools, universities, construction companies, hotels, resorts, showground and venue owners. We can build these on any site where a tennis court can be constructed and where protection from the elements, like rain and direct exposure to light, is needed.
Whether you have a green-field site or are planning to renovate and cover existing courts, our designs are modular in design and can be tailored to suit any court size or configuration. This includes single courts, blocks of 2, 3, 4 or more courts. These structures feature uninterrupted internal roof heights from 7 m to 10 m with or without intermediary support columns between individual courts.
The SMC2 Tennis Court Building System
The SMC2 tennis court construction solution uses a unique combination of building materials to give a cost-effective, functional, attractive and comfortable environment to both players and spectators.
The translucent tensile fabric membrane roof diffuses the natural sunlight as well as reducing sound reverberation and echo. The saddle shaped curves in the roof increase structural stability in addition to being aesthetically appealing. The membrane is guaranteed for 15 years and is 100% recyclable.
In summer the white membrane reflects excess energy from the sun and minimises thermal storage thus preventing overheating. In winter, the dew point temperature and relative humidity of the air within the hall are monitored and maintained at levels that optimise the playing environment of the court. The membrane cover protects from direct UV exposure and from the rain. The roof is designed to manage extremes of weather including high velocity wind.
The structure framework is a combination of laminated timber and steel and have a rated design life of 30 years. The eco-friendly timber is sourced from sustainibly managed forests. This timber is fire resistant and may be used in harsh chemical environments or where there are extremes of weather. This means dimensional stability in spite of temperature variations.
Once the manufacturing process is finished, the prefabricated construction materials are then shipped to the construction site where they are assembled by our qualified teams as it would happen with a prefab building, without any welding, drilling or painting. Our structures are typically pre-assembled on the ground then lifted to position, requiring clear access to an area slightly larger than the completed structure. The installation of our buildings are fast and they allow a better cost control and a small site clean-up. Our professional supervising teams are involved in the construction right down to the last detail.
What we can offer
Working with our local Australian partner, Dynamic Sports, we can offer:
- Project advice
- Quantity surveying and project pricing
- Site planning
- Preparation of engineering plans
- Choice of construction method
- Site preparation and earthworks
- Concrete slab base construction
- Asphalt slab base construction
- Drainage and retaining walls
- Acrylic surfacing
- Synthetic grass surfacing
- Sports equipment installation
- Line Marking
After identifying your needs and requirements, we submit a draft design presenting the dimensions and shape of the proposed structure and then proceed to the cost-estimation.
Once you are satisfied with our proposal, our specialised teams supply the engineering plans to start the manufacturing of the construction materials. All the elements of our structures are custom-made in our manufacturing plants.
Tennis Court Project Options include:
- Playing posts and nets (Tennis)
- Fencing, ball stop netting
- Floodlighting: 300 lux or 500 lux Various artificial lighting and lamp options are available including LED
- Colour-Coated Asphalt
Artificial Grass – Short Pile/Long Pile/Sand Filled/Sand Dressed
- Polymeric surface
- Acrylic surface
SMC2 building and structures are designed to comply with each specific Australian standard from the Building Code of Australia and from other applicable regulations:
- The AS/NZS 1170.2:2011 to set out procedures for determining wind speeds and resulting wind actions to be used in the structural design.
- The AS/NZS 1170.0 which specifies general procedures and criteria for the structural design of a building or structure in limit states format.
- The AS 4100-1998 to set out minimum requirements for the design, fabrication, erection, and modification of steelwork in structures in accordance with the limit states design method
- Fabric testing standards
- Fire testing standards
- Workers Safety Regulations (Personal Protection Devices etc)
The design of an outdoor tennis court associates the most demanding environmental standards with architectural design: a glue-laminate wood framework combined with a translucent fabric membrane cover.
Our fabric membrane covers are guaranteed 15 years. Their curved shapes, inspired by major world sporting facilities, are timeless.
Our optimised fabric membrane construction systems enable the creation of structures with a very low environmental impact both at the time of investment and during use. We conduct a life cycle assessment on all our constructions to validate the environmental performance of our processes.
